![]() When Marnie tells Anna she “loves her more than any other girl” she means it, and we later discover why. It is a love story between two young girls, but it’s love is much deeper than the kind of intimacy we’re groomed to expect by our hypersexual culture. Anna comes across a nearby abandoned mansion, where she meets Marnie, a mysterious girl who asks her to promise to keep their secrets from everyone. The film follows Anna Sasaki staying with her relatives in a town in Kushiro wetlands, Hokkaido. ![]() First, when Hisako tells Anna that she once knew a girl that looked exactly like Marnie, pointing to the girl that Anna has on her sketches. ![]() There is evidence throughout the film pointing that Marnie is real.
